Frequently Asked Questions

Why do dive sites change every day? +−
No two days on the ocean are the same. We select dive sites based on weather, visibility, current, and sea conditions to provide the safest and best possible diving experience. We visit a variety of beautiful Key West reef sites including Eastern Dry Rocks, Western Sambos, Rock Key, Sand Key, Cannonball Cut, Marker 32, and many others. Our captains choose the best locations each day based on current conditions.
How deep are the reef dives? +−
Most reef dives range between 20 and 40 feet, making them enjoyable for newly certified divers while still offering plenty to explore for experienced divers.
Will I see marine life? +−
Every dive is unique, but common sightings include sea turtles, nurse sharks, reef sharks, southern stingrays, eagle rays, barracuda, angelfish, parrotfish, butterflyfish, moray eels, lobster, octopus, spotted eagle rays, and seasonal visitors like dolphins and rays.
Is this good for newly certified divers? +−
Absolutely. Our reef dives are excellent for divers looking to gain experience while enjoying beautiful coral reefs and abundant marine life.
Are tanks and weights included? +−
Yes. Tanks and weights are included with all certified scuba diving trips.
Can snorkelers join this trip? +−
Yes! Many of our reef trips welcome both divers and snorkelers, making them a great option for families and groups with mixed experience levels. Contact us before booking so we can recommend the best trip for your group.
Can I dive Nitrox? +−
Absolutely. Certified Nitrox divers are welcome to use Enriched Air Nitrox on both our reef and wreck dives. If you’re not Nitrox certified yet, ask us about adding the certification to your trip.
What is visibility usually like? +−
Visibility changes daily based on weather and ocean conditions, but it’s common to experience 40–80 feet of visibility, with many days exceeding 100 feet during ideal conditions. Our captains select dive sites each day to provide the best diving experience possible.

Reef Conservation

Explore the Reef. Help Protect It.

Every dive is an opportunity to discover the beauty of the Florida Keys’ marine ecosystem and learn more about the importance of protecting it.

At Southpoint Divers, we believe that exploring the reef goes hand in hand with understanding its health. Depending on the dive and conditions, guests may have opportunities to learn about or participate in marine conservation and citizen-science initiatives that help monitor our underwater environment.

Bleach Watch Surveys

Coral reefs are living ecosystems that can be affected by changes in ocean conditions. Bleach Watch Surveys help monitor coral bleaching and provide valuable information about reef health.

Learn how divers and ocean enthusiasts can contribute to coral monitoring and support a better understanding of the changes affecting our reefs.

FISH Surveys

Healthy fish populations are an important part of a thriving reef. FISH Surveys help collect information about reef fish and the marine life that depends on these ecosystems.

Discover how observing and documenting marine life can contribute to conservation knowledge and support efforts to protect our reefs.
